Alessandria, 14 - 15 November 2011

WELCOME

We wish to invite you to the conference on Mediterranean populations of the genus Alectoris to be held in Alessandria the 14 and 15 of November 2011. The Alectoris partridges are part of the history of Mediterranean civilizations. Their role as game birds, well documented in writings and paintings, testifies to the long appreciation (also aesthetic!) of these elegantly colored birds.
Across European, African and Asian countries, different ecological situations and specific histories and traditions have led to various degrees of attention in terms of management and investment in research.
With this conference, we want to offer the possibility of up-dating and discussion for both resource managers and game biologists. Italy has a strong tradition of partridge studies, and hosted the “Galliform Biology” seminar to "Dipartimento di Ecologia dell'Università della Calabria" in Arcavacata (Cosenza) in 1984 and the X Partridge seminar in Udine in 2003.

The Universities of Eastern Piedmont and Turin  are pleased to continue this tradition of effective exchanges of expertise in Alessandria, a part of Piedmont where an ecologically important agricultural landscape hosts numerous red-legged partridge populations. The meeting will be held at the University of Eastern Piedmont "Amedeo Avogadro" in the city of Alessandria, whose Faculty of Sciences gives particular importance to environmental research.
